“If vaccinated citizens reach 80 percent of the population, the pandemic will be over,” heralded one of Greece’s “health experts”, the Development and Investments Minister Adonis Georgiadis. The minister, a graduate from Philosophy Department of the Athens universe and former telemarketer, has probably never heard of Covid-19 variants nor read about the recent pandemic developments in the UK.
Speaking to Skai TV, Georgiadis claimed further that Greece has one of the highest vaccination rates in the world.
Asked whether a company could invoke non-vaccination as a reason for dismissal, the minister agreed that it could be grounds for dismissal if the employee works in a critical post for the company, but stressed that this was an issue that is for the courts to decide and that “it does not concern the government at all, nor will the government legislate for such a thing.”
The minister added that a new quarantine in the event of a fourth wave of the pandemic would be catastrophic for the economy and it must be avoided through vaccinations.
He expressed confidence that in the coming weeks Greece will be able to have a much greater degree of freedom based on the course of the pandemic.
Georgiadis said that he is bothered by the word “privileges” but it is logical to reduce protection measures for someone who has been vaccinated and is therefore less at risk.
On his part, Health Minister Vassilis Kikkilias told reporters that Greece will “have built a wall of immunity during the summer.”
I think it means that if numbers and variants can be kept quiet, and we can get more vaccinations in, we should make it through the tourism season.
revenues aka profit is the one and only goal of neo-liberals
It reminds me of an old joke:
The President of France announced that excavation work in Paris had unearthed some very ancient cables which proved that France was the first country in the world to have telephones. The President of Greece immediately replied that excavation work under the Acropolis had unearthed absolutely no cables at all which proved that Greece had mobile phones before every other country.
There is a tendency amongst the ruling elite of every country in the world to portray that country as the best at whatever is currently in vogue. Reality is irrelevant to them.
good one. didn’t know. (and laptops; old article on KTG)
I partially agree with you.
But as far as I know, they mention the number of recovered people every day they announce the covid19 situation in Greece.

This is who I refered to as Min of ? in an earlier thread. [Vaccination Committee on AstraZeneca, age group 18-24, vaccines for travelers, temporary AMKA – KTG]
Non-vaccination as a reason for dismissal, “it does not concern the government at all, nor will the government legislate for such a thing.” So why expound? I believe he raised the issue [Greek Gov’t threatens citizens with “loss of work” if they don’t get vaccinated -KTG}
He said that he is bothered by the word “privileges”, which are the obverse of “prohibitions” or “exclusions”. But they can’t say that (yet).
“a graduate from Philosophy Department of the Athens university (and former telemarketer)” should really be sitting back and going “Hmm!” as were the ancients.
Development and Investments Minister or “DIM” which in English can mean not quite as bright as is required.
And on top of all this our Minister of Health is a retired basketball player. Seemingly with no medical background.
Strangley all the news reports give the “new cases” and sadly “dead” but no mention is ever given to the numbers of “recovered”. Search Worldometers for more info.
cheers, Mikey.
Heal Minister has studied Medicine
Good morning KTG, ok found some references to medical studies. Apologies to the MinHealth.
Cheers.
I partially agree with you.

I love your sense of humor and derision KTG, keep it up!
