Greece’ National Meteorological Service EMY issued a weather warning on the upcoming second heat wave forecast to sweep the country with temperatures reaching up to 43-44 degrees Celsius. The atmosphere will be particularity unpleasant also due to high concentration of Sahara Dust.
According to the EMY statement, temperature increase starts today, Tuesday, June 29, in the West and gradually affects the rest of the country.
Regions most affected will be the Ionian islands and the mainland, where temperature is already over 25° C.
Note that the heat wave started last week and Tuesday is the 8th day with temperatures remaining above 35-36 degrees Celsius,

Possibility for local rainfalls in mountainous areas in Central and North Greece as well as in Peloponnese mountains.

Mainland, except eastern Macedonia and Thrace
Maximum temperature: 40°-41°C
Ionian islands: 38°-40°C

Thursday, July 1
Most affected: Thessaly, eastern Sterea, eastern and south Peloponnese.
Maximum temperature: 42°-43°C
Rest of mainland: 39°-41°C – In eastern Macedonia and Thrace, max temperature 2-3 degrees lower.
Ionian Islands and Crete 38°-39°C – other islands and coastal areas 2-3 degrees lower
Friday, July 2
Heat wave temperatures will significantly drop in the West and the North, however will remain high in the rest of the country.
They are forecast to significantly fall on Saturday, July 3.
Attica
Maximum temperature at 40°-41°C on Thursday and Friday, July 1-2, 2021.
Please, remember a bowl of fresh water for the strays in your neighborhood.
Stay cool and rehydrate.
And yes, leave bowls of fresh water, not only for cats and dogs but also for birds. The heat is very difficult for all leaving creatures.
