Greece updates Covid-MAP, places several regions at higher risk level

Greece authorities updated the Covid-Map placing several regions and islands on higher risk levels. “There is an increase of coronavirus infections in 64 of the 74 regional units in total, head of Civil Protection Nikos Hardalias stressed at the briefing on Thursday evening.

Big outbreaks on the islands of Mykonos, Santorini, Ios, Paros and the cities of Heraklion and Rethymno on the island of Crete.

Hardalias warned of upcoming local lockdowns

He said that from Attica, the areas of Mykonos, Heraklion, Rethymnon and the municipalities of Ieton, Thira and Paros are at Orange Level of increased surveillance with specific measures to strengthen the testing due to increased epidemiological burden.

Typically in Mykonos the number of cases has quadrupled in one week from 77 to 308, while in Rethymno it has doubled and in Heraklion it has almost tripled. During the same period, the cases have more than increased five times in Ios, more than doubled in Santorini and have increased seven times in Paros.

He advised the inhabitants and the authorities of these islands that the further spread of the virus must be avoided.
