Summer sales kick off in Greece on Monday, July 11 and will last until August 31, 2022. On the first Sunday of the sales period, that is on July 17, shops are allowed to open from 11 o’ clock in the morning until 8 o; clock in the evening.
According to Chambers of Commerce, during the sales period, consumers should pay special attention to the following points:
-During the sales period, stores should post special notices that sales are taking place.
-The listing of a double price, i.e. the original (which is usually deleted) and the new price of the products sold at a discount is mandatory, in visible places in the store and certainly in the places where the products are displayed.
-Listing a discount percentage is not mandatory and it is at the discretion of the business whether to list a percentage or not. In case the company lists a percentage, it must be specified that it is a discount (e.g. “30% discount”).
-There should be no confusion between discounts – ΕΚΠΤΩΣΕΙΣ – and offers –ΠΡΟΣΦΟΡΕΣ-. Discounts concern products of the season, while offers, where the discount is particularly high, usually refer to outdated items.
-In the case of offers, there should be a posted sign stating that offers are being made. Products must carry the original price and the offer price (not the discount percentage). Caution! Offers often state τηατ “no changes” are possible. So if you regret the acquisition, you cannot change later.
-Ger informed whether the merchant proceeds to change of the product purchased with discount, for the case it is defective, for example.
President of Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Vassilis Korkidis, described the summer sales 2022 as “a long period of relief against the price hikes and in favor of burdened family budgets, that will last 50 days.”
The period is appropriate for “smart” purchases, Korkidis stressed.
