“The history of a country and its people trapped in a power grid: the vicious circle of Eurogroup meetings that imposed the dictatorship of austerity in Greece. Behind the closed doors, a human tragedy is played. An ancient Greek tragedy in modern times, ” Gavras wrote in a note to inform the press about the launching of his new film.
He added “I have to choose among the most impossible thins I hear from both sides. I want to come to my own view on the basis of the facts. You know, I have to go out of the “Greek system” where one blames the others with the worst words … ”
The film is based on Varoufakis’ book “Adults in the Room” and deals with the dramatic negotiations between the SYRIZA government and the international creditors in the first half of 2015 that almost ended to Grexit, the Referendum and the Capital Controls. It has a very critical view on Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.
The film has received a grant of 637,000 euros from the Greek Ministry for Digital Policy.
