Greece’s Civil Protection places 4 regions in “Red Code” due to weather

The General Secretariat for Civil Protection has placed four Greek regions in a state of alert mobilization, “Red Code”, on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.

These regions are: Peloponnese,  Western Greece, the Ionian Islands and Epirus.

The Red Code aims to address risks from the occurrence of flooding phenomena, as well as coastal flooding due to stormy winds reaching 10 Beaufort in the Ionian Sea.

As announced by the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, the General Secretariat for Civil Protection, following the Updated Emergency Weather Deterioration Bulletin, issued by the National Meteorological Service (EMY), placed the above regions in a state of mobilization, “Red Code”.

In this context, municipalities and regions are called upon to immediately convene the Local Operational Coordination Bodies of Civil Protection and the Regional Operational Coordination Bodies of Civil Protection.

Civil Protection Recommendations to Citizens

Additional recommendations are addressed to the citizens by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection, calling on them to be particularly careful, ensuring that self-protection measures are taken against risks arising from the occurrence of severe weather phenomena.

The General Secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection has informed the competent state services involved, as well as the regions and municipalities of the country, so that they are on increased civil protection readiness, in order to immediately address the impacts of the occurrence of severe weather phenomena.
